Car rental General Conditions

Car rental agreements generally require drivers to be at least 25 years old with a valid license held for 3 years, a credit card in their name, and to return the vehicle in the same condition with identical fuel levels. Clients are responsible for damage due to negligence, such as off-road driving, key loss/damaged, or misfuelling, and must report accidents immediately to the authorities (police and insurance company) and the rental company.

Key Rental Conditions

Driver Requirements: Minimum age is typically 25, with a maximum 70. For drivers between 70-80 there is a special arrangement and please contact the company for more details. A valid driving license (held for 3 years) is mandatory.An International Driving Permit (IDP) may be required for non-EU license holders in certain regions.
Documentation: A valid passport/ID, a valid driver’s license and a physical credit/debit card (Visa/Mastercard) in the main driver’s name for a security deposit are required.
Insurance & Liability: Basic insurance usually covers third-party liability and fire, but a Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is often included to reduce, but not eliminate, liability for damages (often leaving an “excess” of €600–€1200).
Fuel Policy: The vehicle must be returned with the same amount of fuel as received, usually full-to-full.
Rental Duration: Typically calculated on a 24-hour basis, with potential charges for late returns (often a 29-minute to 1-hour grace period).
Geographic Restrictions: Crossing international borders or taking the car on ferries often requires prior written authorization and may involve additional fees.

Client Obligations

Vehicle Care:The car must be returned in the same condition as received. Damages to the interior, tires, rims, underside, or clutch due to misuse are the renter’s responsibility.The interior of the car must be returned clean with no salt stains or dirt on the seats and the seats must be dry. Otherwise, there is an extra charge of 160 euros for the biological cleaning.
Please note that smoking and pets are not allowed in the car.
Driving Restrictions: Vehicles must not be used for towing, racing, subleasing, or on unpaved roads.
Accident Procedure: In case of an accident, the driver must contact the police, the insurance company and the rental company immediately, otherwise, insurance may be voided.
Unauthorized Drivers: Only drivers listed on the contract are authorized to drive.
Traffic Fines: All fines and legal penalties during the rental period are the sole responsibility of the renter.

Common Exclusions
Insurance does not cover damages caused by driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, reckless driving, using the wrong fuel, or losing/damaging keys.

Client Obligations

Vehicle Inspection: You must inspect the car at pickup and ensure any existing damage is documented in the Rental Agreement to avoid liability for prior issues.
Proper Use: The vehicle must be used only on public, paved roads. Off-road driving or use on unpaved surfaces is generally prohibited and voids insurance.
Maintenance: You are responsible for checking basic fluid levels (oil, coolant) and tire pressure during the rental period.
Safety & Security: You must ensure the vehicle is always locked and parked in a safe place when unattended. Not parked in places that cause traffic violations. In case like this all the fines are on the driver’s liability.
Fuel Policy: You are typically required to return the car with the same amount of fuel as it had at pickup. Returning it with less usually incurs a refueling service fee plus the cost of the missing fuel.
Traffic Laws: All traffic fines, parking tickets, and tolls incurred during the rental are your sole responsibility.

Emergency Procedures

Accidents: In the event of a collision, you must immediately contact the police, the insurance company and the rental company to obtain an official accident report.
Theft: If the vehicle is stolen, you must report it to the police and return the keys to the rental office to prove you were not negligent.
